Rød grød med flode

Red porridge with creme, please!

Our first week at Kornmod Realskole was fantastic! I rode a bike to school the first day and let me tell you, it was quite the workout. Once we arrived at the school Jane welcomed us and introduced us to a couple of teachers and two other student teachers from Germany who are very nice people! On Monday we began in a class with level 9 students. Jane and the students informed us about the Danish school system. Level 10 in Denmark is optional for most students. Once students are done with level 9, they have the option to go to boarding school, college, or different types of technical schools. The third and fourth day of the first week we worked with level 7 and level 8 students. We had the opportunity to teach the students about our culture, TCU, and Texas! Many of the students were curious about what we thought of our President, guns, how big our schools are, and our school system. The students wanted to teach us a tongue twister called “Rød grød med flode” which is a sweet fruit dish. We also taught the students how to dance the Wobble and the Cupid Shuffle which they seemed to really like! On Thursday the students had a dance, in which we helped cook some Mexican Chili. Next week we have the week off since it is Holiday here in Denmark, this week most students go skiing before winter closes.  We hope to go on an adventure!
